Meet Italian Ambassador to Zimbabwe

Ambassador Carlo Perrotta was born in Rome on November 6, 1965.

In March 1991 he graduated in Law from the “La Sapienza” University in Rome. Three years later he joined the Diplomatic Service.

Between 1994 and 1995 he worked at the Legal Department of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and participated at the Diplomatic Conference for the Convention against the smuggling of cultural heritage items, the NATO talks for the institution of the Partnership for Peace, the negotiations for the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements with the Russian Federation and South Africa.

From 1995 to 1997 Ambassador Carlo Perrotta was part of the Staff of the Italian Presidency of the EU as well as responsible for the dialogue in the Balkans following the Dayton Agreements.

He was Head of the Economic Section of the Italian Embassy in Zagreb between 1997 and 2001 before acting as Desk Officer for the EU Enlargement: he took part in the negotiations leading to the new accessions of January 2004.

Between 2004 and 2006 he worked within the Office for Migration and represented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the National Commission for asylum seekers. From 2006 to 2011 he was Counsellor to the General Director for Human Resources. The following year he was Diplomatic Counsellor to the Minister of Justice during the Monti government. Soon after he was appointed Diplomatic Counsellor to the Minister for Civil Service & Administration of the Letta government.

From June 2014 to August 2018 he was Consul General for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Before being appointed Ambassador of Italy to Zimbabwe in August 2018
