Civil rights organizations and political parties, including the African National Congress held a peaceful march to the South African Parliament in Cape Town recently, in solidarity with the people of Palestine as they marked the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba. The march was also in protest of the massacre of over 60 Palestinian civilians who were killed by the Israeli state in Gaza during the “Great March of Return” demonstrations.
Addressing the gathering, Palestinian Ambassador to South Africa, H.E Hashem Dajani, expressed appreciation to the South African people and government on behalf of the Palestinian people and leadership for their “continuous support and solidarity with our people and their just struggle for the realization of their inalienable rights and the establishment of a fully sovereign and independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital along the lines of 4 June 1967.”
“Our people require help, solidarity and support from all our friendly, peace and freedom loving friends now more than ever in order to overcome Israel’s illegal occupation and achieve freedom, peace and independence,” he added.
The Capetown march follows similar demonstrations that took place in Sandton and Port Elizabeth.
